The Riverside Bar & Restaurant, Chiang Mai

The Riverside, a popular, classic restaurant / bar on the banks of the river Ping. A group of bars and restaurants line the bank of the river and among these are the most famous places to hang out in Chiang Mai. The chances are you'll be eating on a table near a Thai movie star. The drawback of this, is you'll pay for the chance of sitting there!

Where is it?

The Riverside is by the river - duh! On the Eastern bank of the river, just north of the Thapae bridge, the Riverside is the first establishment you come across.

The Riverside is hugely popular with visitors, so we set off to find out why. The location is fantastic with an excellent view of the river. The Riverside makes good use of this too, with some great riverside terracing. It also offers great food, Thai beers on tap, and live music. If you sit in the gardens then the music is a good volume for some casual evening chat.
