North of Chiang Mai, is the small town of Chiang Dao. Legend has it that in ancient times witches were sent away to Chiang Dao. Over time, these witches developed their own community and created a town in their own right. This tour to Chiang Dao takes you to the cave at Chiang Dao where a temple now guards the entrance. Explore inside as you can crawl through passages to enjoy spectacular views. Take a local guide with you and they will test you imagination pointing at 'horse shaped' or 'lion' rock formations.
This tour isn't just about caves though, as you'll experience more local traditional culture. The tour takes in 5 different hill tribe villages including Black Lahu, Palong, Akha, Yao and Karen. The Karen tribe are probably the most famous of the hill tribes, as their women are known as the 'long necks'. Long neck Karen wrap gold around their necks to support it as it is stretched. Traditionally the tribe has occupied the mountainous region on the Thai, Myanmar border, but now some are living near to Chiang Dao.
